This is about the creative tools and processes I use. As I move towards making digital negatives and prints in the darkroom, I’ll be adding more detail to these pages.
I think it’s important to share what I do and how I do it. Think of it like ‘full disclosure’ before one commits to a purchase. I want there to be no surprises, after the fact. A happy customer is a repeat customer. Word of mouth can kill an efford before it even gets started.
A much more detailed explanation of the processes used, can be had on my other photo site- 24mmPOV. Dedicated to creative photography.
Gear
My camera gear includes both digital and film. I’m just as comfortable shooting with a medium format roll-film camera as I am with my full frame digital mirrorless.
Different tools for different approaches.
Many people still have a fondness for film and it’s a perfect complement to the ‘old school’ processes I will be using to make prints. I may yet get back to shooting 4×5. Ya never know.
Digital Process
None the less, a digital work-flow is the best of both worlds. I’ve been using Photoshop since version 2.5 (my first computer for editing photos was a Mac IICi).
The negatives I use for making contact prints in the darkroom, are actually done on a dedicated inkjet printer. It has been loaded with only black and shades of black ink. No color. It has been optimized for producing negatives. That is the only ‘digital’ in my print process, regardless of whether I shoot digital or film.
Analog Process
As I ramp up print production, I will be primarily concentrating on the Carbon Print Process. The beauty of this process is, it allows you to create images with any color of pigment you want AND layer 2, 3 or 4 different colors for effect.
A very labor intensive process practiced by only a few dedicated die-hards.
Thing is, the processes involved are close to the type of darkroom work I did for 30 years as a photo off-set lithographer, creating halftones and duo-tones off the back of a litho camera. I did a lot of that over the years. Not to mention the few years I produced loose color-seps using a Hell drum scanner. So I come to this effort with some basic expertise.
Stay tuned.. Updates to follow.
