Rob’s Classic Prints

The only place where I’ll feature prints for sale with links to Etsy or Big Cartel listings.

Custom, hand debossed photo-mat from 2004

I will ‘eventually’ be marketing a few of my images as limited edition, handmade prints. To be clear, none of my prints are generated using ‘on-demand’ 3rd party printing services. What is for sale today is work I produced myself, in the darkroom, by my own hand. All of it.

Finished prints are of very limited availability. Most will be one-of-a-kind.

That said, an inkjet printer is used to generate at-size B&W contact negatives, for the darkroom. This allows me to do critical tone correction, creative manipulation and selective color separation, prior to making the actual contact print. So my print process is based on either scanned film or digital images, tone corrected and color separated in an app on my Mac, then output as B&W negatives to acetate using a dedicated inkjet printer. A more in-depth explanation of those digital and analog processes are featured as posts on the 24mmPOV Blog.

Preparing inverted digital image for output as a full size contact negative.

Every effort has been made to portray the print for sale, as accurately as possible. A short description of the process and color(s) employed is included with each print. And, any imperfections are noted as well. Prints are typically given a title, signed, dated and tagged with a provenance declaration on the back. All prints ship mounted to a mat with backboard, so no ‘loose’ prints. Some bottom-weighted mats will feature a deboss of the studio logo, some will not. Some will come in aluminum frames, most will not.

Raw Pigment and Watercolor Paint Collection

Last but not least, archival properties are of utmost concern. Classic silver gelatin prints are toned for longevity, Mike Ware’s Cyanotype process is great. There will be a post about it. I also intend to take a stab at making Gum prints  using raw pigments, colorfast watercolors or raw material I ground myself… all printed to acid neutral 100% cotton watercolor paper. It’s important to note that no art should ever be exposed to direct sunlight as the UV component is most detrimental.

I use recycled shipping materials whenever possible. All work ships from PR, USPS, insured. Please- Damaged prints and cartons must be documented and reported to USPS as quickly as possible.

Rob’s custom Puerto Rican wall map

The only exception to the above is my digitally rendered Puerto Rican ‘pirate map’ based on a hand trace of a 1951 USGS map. I spent over a 100 hours researching key points, then another 100 hours painstakingly creating the final image. The compass rose was an entirely separate piece of work. My map is printed to canvas and ships in a tube.

Every pirate needs one. ARRG!
